Synoptic Arctic Survey (SAS) collected empirical data in the Arctic Ocean by coordinating more than 18 cruises in 2020-2022. The data collected is published as open datasets in national data centers (for an overview please look at the cruise matrix). The data analysis is still ongoing, but has already resulted in some nice publications. The goal of SAS is a comprehensive characterization of the Arctic Ocean hydrography and circulation, marine ecosystem, carbon uptake and acidification. In order to do so, the datasets must be combined and compared, with regards to a set of parameters defined as the core measurements. This is what we call the synthesis phase which was kicked-off with the SAS Synthesis Workshop in Woods Hole, June 7-9, 2023. Working groups are being established for 15 different synthesis studies.
